Employability

GRADUATE TRACER STUDY

NOV 2025

Comprehensive Insights

Executive Summary

This report analyzes the feedback from 754 graduates of the institution, collected via the 2025 Graduate Tracer Survey (GTS). The primary objective was to assess the employability of alumni, understand their academic progression, and gather qualitative feedback on their educational. The database was for graduates from the year 2022 to 2025. The sample size for this survey comprised 754 unique responses collected from the 29th of October 2025 to the 10th of November 2025. Key Findings indicate a healthy employment rate of approximately 65%, with a significant portion of graduates securing roles in the public sector, specifically within law enforcement and education. The institution demonstrates a strong ability to retain students, as evidenced by a 30% internal progression rate (students returning for higher qualifications). Geographically, the alumni base is concentrated in Gaborone, Francistown, and Maun, mirroring the campus footprint. The qualitative feedback suggests high satisfaction.

Campus Distribution

Broadhurst HQ accounts for the largest share of respondents, but other campuses like Francistown and BBS are critical pillars of the institution’s reach.

Geographic Dispersion

Our graduates are currently located primarily in major urban centers. Gaborone remains the central hub for alumni employment and residence.

Program Popularity

The ‘Diploma in Law’ and ‘Early Childhood Education’ programs are flagship offerings. These programs not only attract high numbers but also align well with the employment outcomes observed later in this report.

Internal Progression (Retention)

One of the most positive metrics in this report is the Progression Rate. A 30% progression rate implies that nearly one in three students chooses to upgrade their qualification at the same institution.

Overall Employment Status

The majority of graduates (approx. 63%) are currently employed. This is a strong indicator of program relevance. However, the 23% unemployment rate requires attention.

Employment by Campus

When analyzing employment rates across campuses, variations emerge. Campuses with specialized programs (like engineering or health) may show different trends compared to generalist campuses.

Key Job Roles

Analysis of job titles reveals specific clusters:

  • Law Enforcement: A significant number of graduates are Police Officers, suggesting the Law/Public Admin programs are preferred pathways for the police force.
  • Education: ‘Teacher’, ‘ECDE Teacher’, and ‘Assistant Teacher’ are common, linking directly to the Early Childhood Education program.
  • Administration: Roles like ‘Administrator’, ‘Clerk’, and ‘Receptionist’ are widespread across all sectors.

The Student Voice: Qualitative Feedback

Respondents were asked to describe their experience. The sentiment is largely positive, with recurring themes around faculty support and personal growth.

Positive Themes

  • Supportive Lecturers: ‘Lecturers were very patient and helpful.’
  • Environment: ‘Good learning environment’, ‘Peaceful campus’.
  • Personal Growth: ‘Eye-opening’, ‘Intellectually stimulating’.

Conclusion

The 2025 Graduate Tracer Survey paints a picture of Gaborone University College with a satisfied and largely employed alumni base. The strong retention rates and clear employment pathways in public service are significant assets. Refining administrative processes and aggressively marketing to the internal progression pipeline, the institution can further solidify its market position.
